Unsocial behavior on social networks?

Lately I have noticed two annoying trends on LinkedIn that are starting to bug me.

1. People hiding their connection list?

2. People not passing on contact requests/messages.

If you're going to join a social network - then be social!

I don't think LinkedIn is a SNS. It is a database, access to which is sold to headhunters. As this becomes more clear to more people, expect to see more unsocial behavior.

If i can play devil's advocate, why would a person expose their contacts exclusively for "headhunters". If the network can not easilly traverse bi-directionally, then isn't it a somewhat disadavantage to the smaller fish in the pond?
